Well, never heard of that one (in terms of a clasp, that is!). Looks well made, too. Given that there are a number of fantasy clasps for the QSA, someone (or several someones) clearly marketed them for embellishment purposes. I am assuming that they were contemporaneous with the issue of the QSA medal. "Excuse me, Sir - would you like extra clasps for that medal?". Has anyone ever seen advertisements offering such fantasy clasps?
Regards
IL.

A while ago I tried to trace where these originated from. It seemed to be Spink. I spoke to Oliver Pepys at Spink who looked but the files for that era were destroyed in the blitz, so they don't know.

I have never seen a Spion Kop before, which is a very nice find!

Cheers
Ryan

Thanks Guys.....

I lost out on a "Pretoria" and an "Orange River Colony" a while back and when I saw this one I had to make a bid on it......

As soon as it arrives I will take some better pictures.......

I see there is a renamed QSA to RFA on a certain on-line auction site with clasp "Pieter's Hill" in addition to others. It has already attracted several bids. Doubtless due to the Fantasy Clasp. Can't think of another reason.
(note: no connection to seller - nor to auction site except occasional bids!)
Regards to anyone interested.

Put yourself in the position of a typical Lancashire lad who had seen the Kop through his own eyes, if it had been me, I'd have been more than happy and I dare say rather proud if I had a particular clasp made available to me, some time after I returned home, that stood for the carnage of those awful few hours in late January 1900.
