Good Afternoon Everyone......

Was able to do a bit of a Jiffy Bag Dance this afternoon.....

I obtained the following and it has caused a bit of a question.....

This is the second one that I have in my collection and there is a difference in the naming......

The first is named BR. J. B. PHILLIPS, N.V.A.C., bars, TUGELA HEIGHTS, RELIEF OF LADYSMITH, TRANSVAAL, LAING'S NEK

This one is named BR. D. PATTON, NATAL VOL. AMB. C., bars, TUGELA HEIGHTS, RELIEF OF LADYSMITH

One of the nice thing is that it has about 10 inches of original ribbon in great condition......

Thanks for looking.....

Mike

The naming is correct and the medal and clasps are clearly shown in WO100/261, although WO127 suggests his name was David Paton, it does confirm service from the 10th of December 1899, WO100/261 suggests that the service was from the 23rd of December, so the only issue is the second T in his surname, but, only one David Patton/Paton.
A very nice medal.

Good Morning Frank......

Thank you for the information.... The main thing I was wondering about is the style of Unit Identification, one in initials only and one spelt out..... Was one an early and one a later issue.....

Hello Mike,
I think it was open to interpretation by the particular individual who actually was doing naming on the day in question and really little more than that, nothing whatsoever to suggest it was a late issue, a good medal, I like it very much, you do certainly encounter differing regiment/corps titles on the same issue of medals.
Regards Frank
