I am looking for records relating to the above. From the London Gazette I know that he joined the Royal Irish Regiment as a 2nd Liuetenant 16/2/98. He was killed in an accident in South Africa on 13/4/05. Between those dates I know little. I have looked on the National Archives but nothing comes up. Ditto Find my Past. Perhaps I am missing something obvious? What I would really like is to find out about his service in the RIR: when did he go to South Africa, which actions, if any, was he involved in, why did he remain in South Africa until his death in 1904?

Cecil was the brother of Vice Admiral Lancelot Holland, who was killed in H.M.S. Hood in action with the German Battleship Bismarck. Vice Admiral Holland is my main subject and I have a good amount of knowledge about naval records. I hoped to find out something about his brother but have so far drawn a blank on the military side. Any help or pointers gratefully received.

Thanks
