A question I ask myself always

Excuse my english

With all the campaigns in South Africa (1900-1908) and all the great war from 1914 to 1920 with all the medals he had, and 5 years in nazi camps because british subject,
he does'nt had a military pension (if i am not wrong.I think, and my father too).
Why?
Because he lived in France ?
Because he was voluntary ?
Because he did not spend enough time in the army ?

He finished is life with a very small civil pension ! but happy.
