The "Palmer Roll" cited is "The Boer War Casualty Roll" by Alexander M Palmer ISBN 0 9577097 0 6. I understand that details of officer casualties in that roll were derived from a book titled "In Memoriam".

Further to my earlier post
At the risk of over egging the pudding: I was sure I had seen a pic of Col.W.Royston somewhere and checked the usual sources. Must have been mistaken; however, I did manage to find an entry for him in VolIV of Creswicke's "South Africa and the Transvaal War" (page 134).
