Hello Forum members,
I recently purchased QSA with 5 bars to 3627 Pte AA Shaw. 16th Lancers
Bars listed as follows:
RoK, P'berg, Johannesburg, D. Hill, W'bergen.
realising this lancer was an early entrant in the Western front, was he perhaps entitled to Belmont, Modder River and any SA bars?
Did this lancer qualify for the KSA?
Can any of the esteemed members confirm the Roll details please? Henk, Mike, Adrian, David??
Are there any photographs available?

Last year I purchased a book on eBay in Dayton Ohio titled 'The Mobile Boer' by Two Burghers; printed in 1902 by Grafton Press;
on the inside page are listed the following names Alan R I Hiley and John A Hassell.
I'm curious to know whether these are the names of the burgher authors or are they only the compilers ? Lots of interesting information listed in the book.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you all.
I find the comments and info shared here extremely rewarding.

According to my CD, he is entitled to RofK/Jhb/DH/Belf/ and shows CC and OFS as well. Roll also has notation "Transfer to Imperial Military Railway"..
You would have to check on the IMR roll for date clasps or KSA.

Interestingly, regarding his QSA, there is a very clear note in WO100/118, "not iss'd"
His KSA is verified from the 16th Lancers in WO100/305 with a note that he transferred to the Army Reserve in South Africa.
There is a man with this name in WO100/252, who is shown as a Fireman with the Locomotive Department of the Eastern Section of the Imperial Military Railways, however, this medal, a QSA, was not issued.
On this latter, there is a note "employed for some period between the dates 16th of July 1901, May 31st 1902" it is signed L S Smart, Chief Locomotive Superintendent

WO100/118 is very clear and does show entitlement to all five clasps.
