Hello All,

I have, as a gift from work, just acquired a QSA named to 9 Tpr M.Perreira of the Farmer's Guard with the OFS, SA 01 and SA 02 clasps together with his WW1 pair to the 1st Cape Colored Labour Regiment. In the box was also his son's WW2 group.

I do however, know that there is not much information available to the Farmer's Guard so does anyone have any useful snippets of info that they would like to share as I try to piece together a story of the lad.

The very first thing that I note is simply how very nice to see a medal that had actually been issued, not many were!

Can't help with Farmers Guard apart from what maybe in Tylden - I can check tonight.

But, am interested in the "colour" aspect of the three sets of medals; was Perreira senior an other rank in the CCLR and was his son classified non-white in WWII?

Super medals, not envious at all.

Thanks, I cannot tell for sure if Pereira Senior was indeed a "coloured" or not however, hopefully his C.C.L.Regt attestation papers have survived and are in Pretoria. I have Dewald looking for me and he says that there a pile of them which he will look through. He was a Corporal during WW1.

His son's WW2 medals do not have a "C" prefix in front of the number indicating that he was regarded as a "white" even though he looks "coloured" in a photo.

All very interesting so I look forward to getting the full picture.

Perreira is of Portuguese extraction or origin if I'm not mistaken (you will probably find his name is Manuel ala Faulty Towers)

Given the olive hue of the Mediterranean skin mistakes were made with racial classifications.
