Thanks chaps

David - no sadly not my library is in transit to Port Elizabeth and within is my copy of the Natal Field Force with the DLI detail. Perhaps someone can tell me what Company W Sutherland was in?

Meurig - yes I agree chances are that at least one was on the Hill - Ihave the medal to W. Bell but not the one who was taken POW or wounded..

Regards

Rory

Dear Elmarie
I was intrigued by your list especially 210 Pte J. Tatham, who you list. However my record shows him buried at Mooi River having died 22 April 1900. Where did you find your info about him being a Spione Kop casualty?

Regards
Jon

I wonder if Tatham's burial at Mount Alice was only a temporary arrangement? Presumably he was wounded on Spioenkop and died after being brought down to the Mt Alice base. Since Buller moved back to Chievely, Mt Alice must have become a lonely place. The Tathams were (?still are) a prominent Natal family, and they may have arranged for the body to be moved to Mooi River.

Brett
