Interesting. He's on the QSA roll from 11 September 1901 as Private. The nominal roll from 20 May 1901 lists him as Lt in A or Mounted Company.

Must have had a chequered career.

Do any of the newspaper reports cite a scource for the VC story? If not, then all they could be doing is reporting conversation from a bar.
