I have no idea where these are Clive. My best guess would be Boer War and around the Clouston area?

Could this be the second image?
Lt-Col W.H .Dick - Cunyngham VC killed near Ladysmith.
I believe this memorial was close to the Klip River
If it is around Ladysmith the 1st image may be the memorial of Wagon Hill / Platrand.... Just a thought!

Dave
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.

Hello Dave
This is certainly one of the photos, the course of the stones above the plaque is identical. It looks as if the railings were added later as in my photo
and thanks for your thought on the location of the other photo
Is there a way of tracking down which unit of Natal Carbineers my grandfather R M Stone Trooper nr 1609, served in and the service record and why he received his clasp in the 1906 Rebellion
I have been enjoying reading about some fascinating service records in recent posts
Thanks again
Clive

Hi Dave
Just looked up the VC details of Cunyingham and Battlefield Region Guides have a more recent photo and there are now new galvanised railings around the cairn
they also say that he was killed on his way to Wagon Hill
Thanks again

Clive
