If this is a list of military hospitals, rather than POW camps for Boers, then the one in Green Point is Somerset Hospital, which opened in 1864, and is the oldest hospital in the country. It still has some brass plaques from donors etc. dating from the South African War on the wall in the corridor opposite the medical students' canteen.
Or at least it did a fortnight ago when I last was there!

The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.

Cheers Rob
I'm working on a theory regarding the hospital entry reference Green Point. The man I'm researching is a 1st Battalion Gloucester private. He was taken prisoner at Nicholson's Nek, Farquhars farm to be precise. Moved to Nooigaadt and released on the 5th September 1900. He then received a gunshot wound to his shoulder, not sure where and when. He has 1 day at Green Point to rest. His next port of call is Colombo, so I am wondering if he was posted to look after Boer prisoners who may have been sent from Green Point to Ceylon? I believe the 1st Battalion Gloucester Regiment arrived in Colombo between 5th and 12th of September 1900. It's just a theory at present, lots more research to be done. But a possibility for sure.
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,
Dave

Somerset Hospital is certainly a possibility. Another is Green Point No 6 Stationary Hospital, which occupied part of the Infectious Diseases Hospital near the Somerset. It's discussed in an interesting article on 'Hospitals in Cape Town during the Anglo-Boer War', which can be downloaded from the following page : www.ajol.info/index.php/samj/article/view/156906 (click the PDF button).
