Hi,
Yes I do have a copy of his MIC and have found masses of other material. My favourite is a photo of him in a very early RR at Tidworth, Hants. Later joined Army Motor Reserve of which Rolls himself was a member.

Hi David,
I think it is. I have now found a hand copied note I made when I 1st found the newspaper report. It was the Cardiff Times 1st Dec. 1900 reporting on a dispatch from Lord Roberts in Johannesburg on 26th Nov. After a giving personal details about Moffat it then mentions an action in the Gatsrand in which one man was killed and 5 wounded Inc 2nd Lt. MOFFAT S.W.B. Quite a lot of detail e.g release of English civilian prisoners.

Hi Dave,
Sorry for the very short reply to last message. Yes I did. Found the record of sale of other 3 on DNW site and was blown away by what they made. Even though I have really enjoyed researching Herbert and his father and found them both fascinating I cannot understand that amount of interest. I think I have found just about everything I can about them although his Paris born wife Irene LeCocq has cost me many a white hair
I do not expect to find another S.W.B. man named after a road from Balaclava to Sebastopol!
Your account from Romer dovetailed perfectly with the Cardiff Times Report. I never thought to have such detailed nowledge of how and when he was wounded.
Many thanks for your interest and help.

Good morning. I found last week in a street market in Dover what I believe to be a 'Leg of Mutton' gun case belonging to Herbert. It is marked with the monogram 'H W M 24th Regt'. I can but assume he had a shotgun of some kind.

How on earth it ended up lying on a bin liner in the rain when I spotted it, I have no idea.

I would love to see a photo of him if possible please.

Phil
