Good stuff, thanks . Yes, research never ends as there is always more info out there somewhere. Meurig however, it seems that I have reached a dead end at the mo with the Lebombo scouts, i can't seem to find anything new to add to what I already have. This does not mean however, that it's the end of the road. I will keep digging.

Regards
Adrian

Good stuff Frank.

AM Miller was Allister Mitchell Miller a central figure in the development of white concessions in Swaziland. He arrived there in 1888, was appointed secretary to the Swazieland (sic) Cttee and was later Secretary to the Resident Commissioner. On his wife's gravestoen was carved "Widow of Swaziland's Greatest Pioneer'. He pre-deceased her in case you may wonder this was self-agrandisment.

SL Bray is SC Bray of the ILI and Menne's Scts.

I have seven members of of the LIS recorded and amongst my Father's papers I found a photocopy of an old list of more members of the LIS that he had found in the Killie Campbell Library. I'll try and dig it out tomorrow.

Hi Adrian and the rest of this topic.
Have you guys been able to dig any further on this topic? Aparantly I had 2 family members in the LIS only to be found in a book called: My life in South Africa; a narrative of 70 years' pioneering in mid-east Africa by David Forbes. I could only find partial information on the website: samilitaryhistory.org/vol126hj.html
Aparantly David Forbes took all the documents home regarding the LIS to keep the peace when settlers would go back to Swaziland. Also a nice detail is that Forbes wanted to give only British soldiers a medal instead of everyone in the LIS ( +/- 60 people at the time ). I am also curious if the Steinaeckers horse group operated together with the LIS?

If there is a list I am interested in the names:

Alexander Hamilton and Thomas de Coutnay-Oswin. According to my uncle in South Africa, Thomas was a big man being a blacksmith in Bremersdorp.

I am investigating my roots from my mothers side and it is always nice to have stories next to the people I investigate.
Thanks for any information. Keep safe and stay healthy

Arthur
