Adrian,

I wonder if the recipient or someone later on made this change? I agree that it is a great shame when this is done to a medal.

We'll just have to keep waiting for a verified Talana/Elandslaagte to appear on the market.

Best wishes
David

Given the source I am surprised this medal is offered for sale, I would like a good look at the rivets. I would expect they would verify what the roll clearly shows - not entitled.

The other question I always ask when faced with such a medal - why would anyone (apart from the recipient) make this clasp combination up on an SAC medal?

Hi David,

We might be in for one hell of a long wait :( :(

Hello Meurig,

I was wondering exactly the same thing. Either way it is a crying shame that the medal has been tampered with.

Cheers

Meurig, a good question!

It is interesting to note that three of the recipients of the Talana/Elandslaagte combination did serve in the SAC in later years so perhaps the recipient talked to these men, saw their medals or listened to their stories?

Gentlemen,
I must say that I find this sort of behaviour, from a known dealer here, to be rather surreptitous and from even a very basic moral point of view, really quite disgraceful!

We must all be on our guard these days!

CAVEAT EMPTOR!:(

Frank,

I must agree with you 100%. I did email Chelsea and I did receive a reply from Richard to say that he would remove the medal from his listing forthwith. He mentioned that 2 researchers could not confirm the clasps.

My point is then" If in doubt don't add to the list"

I wonder if the medal will re appear at some point with the correct clasps???
