Shepherd is listed here, on this site, in the transcribed medal roll, moreover, he is, of course, shown on page 125, of the original, for both the QSA and Defence of Kimberley clasp, which is in WO100/282 at Kew.
I am sure David will be able to tell you a lttle more too.

Avi,

From my roll, I have only the very basic information that confirms his awards and notes that he served in No III Section, B Company, No 4 Redoubt.

I'm sorry I don't have any more.

Best wishes
David

Hi David
Thanks for that. It's amazing the amount of information out there if you know where to look! Not in the UK at the moment so Internet access is intermittent but I keep on researching when ever I can. I really am very grateful for the detail about where grandad was in Kimberley. It is fascinating stuff.

Hello Avi,
If your grandfather was employed by De Beers, I would consult their archive in Kimberley, as mentioned, if I were you, the only records of members of the Kimberley Town Guard here, are for those who also served in other units.
Regards Frank

Avi,

In David Biggins book, KIMBERLEY-Siege account &Medal Roll there are two listings under Shepherd close to your grandfather;

Shepherd Pte W. KTG (Kimberley Town Guard) he was awarded a Queen South African (QSA) medal and a clasp for "Defence of Kimberley. He served in No. III Section, B Company, No 4 Redoubt. This is the most likely as most, if not all, of the KTG lived in Kimberley and worked for De Beers.
I found this thread when I was researching a member of the KTG who served in the Cycle Corps, A Company. The other chap listed is Shepherd, 278 Pte William F, KRV (Kings Royal Volunteers?) QSA with clasps for Defence of Kimberley and Orange Free State. - Noon effective 1 Aug. 00 Born 1876. Occupation plumber 50th anniversary attendee. This book was publish in 2010 and came with a CD of updates to the medal roll. I haven't looked at the CD yet but I'll do that as soon as time permits. If I find any other possibilities I'll them to this thread. Good luck in your search for info on your grandfather.

Regards,

Gordon
