Thanks to both Henk and Mike
I guess the list of the Scandinavian voluteers is not complete. I have seen a similar list in several books for an example in Brian Pottinger's "The Foreign Voluteers", Claus Nordbruch's "European Volunteers", and Uddgren's old Swedish book from 1924 "Hjältarna vid Magersfontein".
The South African historian Frederick Hale has in his article
”The Scandinavian Corps in the Second Anglo-Boer War”, (
Historia, 45, nr. 1,May 2000) argued that there probably were more Scandinavian volunteers than the official lists sustain (p. 224) due to a constant flow of volunteers, who either joined and left the Corps. There are examples of volunteers, who joined the Corps for a very short while before joing a boer kommando.
Hale seems to be right in his theory because I have found names of Danish volunteers in the Rigsarkiv in Copenhagen, who doesn't appear in the official lists.
Quite interesting.
