My schoolboy latin tells me that it reads "if you desire peace, prepare for war". A somewhat outdated comment these days - if still essentially true!

Hello Ian,
The RA's had been raised with that very ethos in Natal, moreover, similar were worn by other RA's in that colony and it also appeared on the stationery of most others too, as did the elephant.
