The RMF soldier executed was Pte 4806 P Enright - one of nine executed during the war.

There are 23 instances of poisoning:

Alcohol
Accidental
Blood
and just Poisoning (morphine, "choral", Ptomaine and chloroform)

nothing to indicate any snakes were involved, and none from the HLI.

Meurig,

Thanks. It's the kilt wearers (HIghlanders) in the reference. Any references to them?

Best wishes,

Justin

Good Morning Everyone.....

Way back in the winter of 1988 I was laid up with an injury for about 3 months and was bored out of my tree.... I had done about as much as I could do with my collection from here and was thinking of what I could do to keep me busy.....

Well I took a copy of the Natal Field Force Casualty List and went through it to find Odd-Ball reasons to be a casualty.....

I then wrote it up and it was published in the OMRS Journal: Volume 28 No. 1 Page 12, Spring 1989......

This was before computers (as my kids say at the time of chisel and stone)so sorry no copy to post and tried to scan with no luck maybe if wanted I will re-type......

Here are a few highlights, what would your family think when they saw this on a posted casualty list.....

Suicide (While temporarily insane) ..... 55
Died from Alcoholic Poisoning ..... 9
Murdered ..... 8
Killed by Bee Stings ..... 2
Joined the Rebels ..... 2
Killed by Crocodile while swimming ..... 2

Sorry no snake bite but maybe I missed it......
