Hi Helen,
I have had a look through two of the casualty lists that I use for reference (Palmer 1999 & Hayward 1982) and I'm afraid I didn't find anything to match number, name or KOSB. I also tried under Horton, as many mistakes were made in transcription, but to no avail. Sorry I can't report anything more positive!
Cheers Steve

Private E. Thompson, 1st Life Guards, wrote a letter home from Maitland Camp, Cape Town, and included this snippet: "When we were walking through the street, which we had had to do because our horses were so stiff after standing for three weeks, one of our ship's sailors was coming to shake hands with us. He came behind my horse, and he kicked him, killing him at once on the spot."
