When searching the SALH roll searching for J.W.A. Temple, what should I find at nearly the very end of the SALH roll but an entry for a "Lt. W.L.S. CHURCHILL" entitled to clasps CC/OFS/TH/RofL. A marginal note tells us that his medal was "Issued by the King, 29/7/01".

An interesting discovery! Thank you for sharing it. I wonder if anyone has searched the rolls for other famous names? Plenty of Generals - my favourite would be Hubert Gough. Also Gandhi and perhaps other famous politicians.

Whilst at the Pietermaritzberg Archives last week I came across this written by Gandhi. Might be of interest

Looking for Salutries, Salootries and Veterinary Duffadars.
I collect primarily QSAs to Indian Recipients.

A very gracious letter, indeed. My copy of Sir. R. Buller's recommendations lists "Mr. Clarence, Superintendent" and "Mr. Ghandi, Asst. Superintendent" under the heading Indian Ambulance Corps.

Many thanks for sharing a very interesting letter. Mr Gandhi and his Ambulance Corps have been much in my thoughts of late so your post was most opportune.

Brett
