Morning

Interesting thread and have learned a bit more about these tins, thanks to all who have contributed

From my collection, two tins showing both ends of the scale in terms of condition.

The first is in a velvet cased frame and is pristine with minor blemishes. Complete with its decaying Rowntree chocolates, it would seem this was sent home and cherished, being well protected.

At the other end of the scale is a well used example, obviously used extensively by the recipient.

Regards
Jon

I have never seen a tin in such perfect condition as this one. It's nice to see how they once looked. Thank you for posting this image.

Described as:

Boer War Queen Victoria Christmas Tin with Remains of Original Contents, fine example of the Christmas 1900 tin which was sent by Queen Victoria to the British troops fighting during the Boer War in South Africa. Centre of the tin with profile image of Queen Victoria, crowned cipher to one side and the other side ‘SOUTH AFRICA 1900’. The tin still retains much of the original chocolate (now broken and crumbled) to the interior and the original straw packing. Much of the original finish remains to the tin. Rare to find with original contents.
