Hi

I looked at Archbell, but was uncertain about the single clasp Wittebergen, because there are two Archbells in the Harrismith Vol Light Horse roll, no 105 and no 150. Both appear entitled to either a SA01 or SA02 clasp , or both.
Please could someone enlighten me further?

But a very nice medal all the same.
Regards
Adrian

A look at the FID roll WO100/301 page 26 shows - against Archbell's entry - the notation "Harrismith LH 150".

Do you have anything on him in your trusty FID book IL?

I have requested his Claim for compensation file from Pretoria - all will be revealed then. I think there's a story lurking of divided loyalty but time will tell.

Not very much in the Buxton book, I am afraid. Your man appears to have hailed from the Harrismith District. Buxton - splendid effort that he made with his FID book - sometimes omits marginal notes. Hence, out with the actual FID roll again. Another look just now adds that, in front of the "HLH 150" notation, the numeral "8". I really don't know what that means. Unfortunately, any marginal notes on P26 are obscured by some sort of covering.
Again referring to Buxton, he lists a number of single "Wittebergen" clasp entitlement.
Good luck with your research.
Regards
IL.
