Arriving in hartbeesport later today for a weeks holiday. Keen to visit some boer war areas but when I have looked into mafeking there isn't t much to see apart from a memorial in the centre of town. Are there any places in this part of the boer conflict that are worth visiting that have embraced the history side of it?
Thinking of the clasps on the medal of joburg, driefontein, paardeburg etc

Thanks

Wayne

Hi Wayne

If you want to visit Paardeberg, you must come to Bloemfontein and visit our Anglo-Boer War Museum!

Perhaps the site of Mafeking Concentration Camp No. 2? www.boerenbrit.com/archives/3754

A search for 'Mafeking' brought up more suggestions. www.boerenbrit.com/?s=mafeking

Thanks elmarie but it's nearly a 5 hour drive. Plan on coming back in 2022 ( British lions tour) and staying in Durban with a few days off exploring the boer/ Zulu war places

Hi Wayne

Diamond Hill is to the east of Pretoria and not difficult to access. If you're thinking of Paardeberg then Magersfontein isn't too far away from there. Some years ago I took in Kimberley, Magersfontein and Paardeberg comfortably in a day.

Thanks David

But is there anything to see there apart from it's a name on a clasp?

Thanks again

Wayne
