Dear Forum
Just a quick question to all those people who purchased the Boer War Atlas by Chris Ash.
Did anyone find that their copy had pages 69 to 76 missing?
I came to research the maps for Colenso today, and low and behold the pages were missing from my copy. Your help will be most appreciated.

Dave.......

Dave, Ash's maps are based (entirely) on those of Maurice's Official History.
The originals in Maurice are, IMHO, far better.
Though the maps are not on the angloboerwar.com site, you can buy the books and maps from nmarchive, com at a price that won't mean taking out a 2nd mortgage. If I recall correctly, for Colenso you'd need "Maps Vol 1". Possibly some kind soul has this volume and can send you scans?

My copy of Ash's Boer War Atlas has pages 69 - 76 in place. Dave's copy must be faulty and he should contact the seller.

Dave,

No, my copy has those pages included.

How odd!

Re the reprint of Maurice by N & M Press ( www.naval-military-press.com/product/off...of-full-colour-maps/ ) it was certainly the case when I bought mine that the large maps that accompanied each volume of the original was condensed into a fairly useless A4 booklet in the reprint.

Is that still the case?

When I obtained my reprint of Maurice from N@MP some years ago now, it had four slim A4 map volumes, and the maps reproduced had a decidedly yellowed tinge and sometimes divided between two pages. Perhaps the yellow-ish tinge was due to the original paper deteriorating and that being reflected in the reproduction? I have never seen the original maps in Maurice and very much dislike having to refer to the reproductions. The maps in Amery are useful and I and fall back on Ash with a sigh of relief.
