After finding this in the Weston-super-Mare paper, I thought it was worth posting here, rather than in a similar thread elsewhere.
.
.

...."Through the courtesy of Mr F. E. Day, the Registrar of Births and Deaths for this district, we have been favoured with an inspection of the births register with the view of ascertaining to what extent the war in South Africa has influenced patriotic local residents in the naming of their offspring. We find that from the 1st March up to the present date ten children have been given Christian names which possess more or less direct references to the stirrring events or leading personalities associated with the campaign—five girls and five boys.
...."As regards boys, the following duly appear in the Register: Herbert Redvers Davage, Cecil Redvers Harris, William James Baden-Powell Capel, Baden Pretoria Pratlett and James Macdonald Hibbs.
...."Of the five girls four bear the name of Pretoria, viz:—Ivy Enid Pretoria Browning, Enid Pretoria Stone, Gertrude Pretoria Williams, and Florence Pretoria May Fear, whilst the fifth is named Gladys Tugela Yeomans. Any more going on?"

Berenice,

You post reminded me of searching the National Archives for references to Mafeking and finding many soldiers from the Great War bearing that place name.

As one example:

Dr David Biggins

David, I occasionally see gravestones with names that have a WW1 link, such as Ypres, but I've don't think I've ever seen a WW2-related name (although John Lennon was given the middle name 'Winston,' after Winston Churchill). I used to have a female work colleague named Alma, and at the time of the Crimean War the names Balaklava and Inkerman were also given to babies.

From what I can see online, the first name Kimberley originated in 1900, although the spelling as Kimberly is of Old English origin.

My great uncle, Neville Reynolds Hall, was born on the day of the Relief of Kimberley.
Because of this he was always known as "Uncle Kim".

I think I've found my next research project :)

You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,
Dave
