Morning Brett,
What really does surprise me there, is simply the first word in the headline, nice to see somethings have not changed, Martin West would certainly be pleased, although, I think West Street is now referred to (not by me!) as something rather different?
Regards Frank

Surprisingly, Westville, Kloof and many other suburban names have survived (so far) in the new Metropolitan Municipality of eThekwini (which also includes Durban). However, West Street is indeed no more (I cannot remember the new name), and Martin West was expunged as the name of the municipal office building in what was once Smith Street.
Since this an Anglo-Boer War forum, readers might want to know how some familiar names are now disguised in official documents:
Dundee - Endumeni Local Municipality, which is part of the uMzinyathi District Municipality,
Ladysmith - Emnambithi Local Municipality, which is part of the uThukela District Municipality,
Pietermaritzburg - Msunduzi Local Municipality in the uMgungundlovu District,
and many, many more.

Fortunately, I have no need to remember any of the new names.

Thank you for getting this thread back 'on topic'. I apologise for leading it astray!

There are certainly some weird and wonderful blockhouses in your assemblage! Perhaps some frustrated architects in the ranks of the British army came to the fore when the order went out to build blockhouses. Are the locations of all the illustrated blockhouses known?

Regards
Brett

Hi Brett

Most locations of these blockhouses are known but I am still busy with research on them. The one that looks like a mushroom are very interesting to me!

Maybe it was disguised to look like something like a maize silo, so it wouldn't look out of place on the Highveld!
