Hello David,
Me neither, not something I could ever get into, but, they are still
nice things.
Kind regards Frank

No, I don't collect these types of things. They are interesting historical items but they don't hold very much interest for me.

Best wishes
David

The estimate for this letter is similar to some of those in the Spink sale.

An envelope sent to a King’s Lynn doctor during the Boer War in Africa in 1900 is set to fetch up to £120 at auction.

Many thanks for the timely post.
David

You're welcome David, I was going to post the link to the story in a new thread but then saw it was related to this one.

I made inquires about one lot. It seems that the first stage of this envelope's journey was by being smuggled out of Ladysmith by Native Runners. A fact we read about but here at least is an example.

Looking for Salutries, Salootries and Veterinary Duffadars.
I collect primarily QSAs to Indian Recipients.

Now THAT one has a nice feel of immediacy about it! Hope you get it.

I thought so too. However it is not for me. Wanted to check that it was not sent by an Indian soldier to India.

This post is off-topic and comes from the fantasy world I sometimes inhabit, so David B may soon delete it.

When I was immersed in investigating the Natal Native Scouts, it occurred to me that, if we could extract DNA from relics they left behind, we might also be able to identify some of their living descendants, thereby exciting an interest in the Boer War amongst people who were previously indifferent to it. Of course, there are many obvious flaws in this fantasy, not least finding appropriate relics. As I read David G's post, I thought of CSI and skin cells on envelopes. Perhaps one day in future ......
