Title: Forfeiture of SA Medals by men of S African Constabulary.

Offences committed prior to 9.7.02 ie whilst the SAC were considered as soldiers.

Provision of the Royal Warrant 9KR as to forfeiture of Medals (68/SA/8703) cannot be applied to the SAC after 9.7.02. Similarly the provisions relative to restoration of forfeited medals cannot be applied to them after that date.

AG3 15.9.06. The medals cannot be regained unless the man resumes his status as a soldier and completes the necessary service.

Case of No A/562 Trooper J Gibson, SAC.

(1) Offering violence to his superior officers
(2) Resisting escort

28 days ILH [sic] and discharged (B of O) 16.6.02

Allow medal as he was not tried or discharged till after the conclusion of peace, ie had he been convicted and so discharged, the medal being in his possession there would have been no authority by which his medal could be retaken.

A soldier convicted (16.7.01) under Section 18, Army Act, forfeiting the Queen's SA Medal and clasps earned prior to that date afterwards re-earns the Queen's Medal and such clasps as he subsequently became entitled to. His service prior to 16.7.01 cannot be allowed to reckon towards the period qualifying for the grant of the King's Medal vide paras 3, 9, 15 Army Order 232 of 1902. AG3 minute 12.12.06.
