Hi
ABO medals to Boer casualties at Talana are seldom seen.
Different numbers, varying from 30 to 50,have been published as to the number of Boers who were killed or died of wounds at this battle. In Breytenbach's 1949 publication "Die Tweede Vryheidsoorlog : Deel II Ontplooiing van die Boere-Offensief Oktober 1899" he listed the names of 23 Boers, but added that some of the names listed by him under "Missing" probably were also KiA. Pretorius' name appeared in the "Missing" list.

Hello David,
Do you think that this actual image is post war?

Hello Henk,
That is a very fine ABO, one of a number of really good ones that you have shown on here, I sometimes wish I had bought more in the past, when they could still be found in reasonable numbers, not to mention the prices that even unresearched examples go for these days, but, I suppose its only right and proper, they are quite scarce in there own right.
Wonderful to see this particular medal.
Regards Frank

Frank,

It did seem odd to depict soldiers in the picture if it was 1907. If the date is correct, perhaps this is from the 1906 conflict?

Best wishes
David

Frank,

Looking closer, the date of 1907 comes from when the postcard was posted.
