1902 - Sapper Wadhams, R.E., died at St Helena.

....Lieutenant E. M. Pack, Royal Engineers, St. Helena, has sent a letter to P.C. Wadhams, of Boughton, informing him of the death of his son, Sapper Wadhams, of the Royal Engineers, which took place at St. Helena on October 15th, after a fortnight's illness. The deceased was buried in the island on the 16th with full military honours. Lieutenant Pack writes highly of the esteem Sapper Wadhams was held by his comrades, of his steady and honourable character, and his earnest devotion to duty. Before he died he sent his savings, amounting to over £16, to his father. The deceased served in the South African War, where he contracted enteric fever. On his recovery he was sent to St. Helena, where he formed part of the guard over the Boer prisoners.
