Hello Paul,
You know my thoughts on that particular medal and they remain unchanged, a very good medal to French's Cavalry Brigade, but, you have not told me your thoughts on the 18th of February.
Regards Frank

Morning Frank,
I read the account in Packenham's book again last night and he seems to lay the blame at the hands of Kitchener.
It was quite ironic in one of his reports to Roberts that he says basically everthing was under control and going well.
It seems he had a promblem with communication particullary with Kelly-Kenny who I think would have been a better commander.
The irony is it is quoted as one of our most succesfull battles of the campaign.

Paul :)

Good morning Paul,
Can't disagree with Thomas Packenham, "Herbert" had a lot to answer for in my opinion, all those casualties, not a great day for the army!
Regards Frank
