What a great photo of him! Thanks for the link.

What was the March to Ntingwe? Was that part of the Zulu Rebellion?

Yes it was a point of military activity. I don't know the circumstances of Maw's death.

There is now a tea estate at Ntingwe - apparently you can buy it from Taylor's of Harrogate.

Thanks. Yes, every online reference I could see for 'Ntingwe' was coming up in connection with Taylor's Tea!

Berenice

Trooper H C Maw of the Transvaal Mounted Rifles died of wounds on 14 May 1906.

The first contingent of the TMR left Johannesburg on 26 April. Between that date and Maw's death there were two significant contacts with the Zulus in the vicinity of Nkandhla, the first by a combined force under Colonel Mansel (Natal Police) on 5 May, and the second by a force under Lieutenant-Colonel Murray-Smith (Natal Mounted Rifles) on 12 May.

Unfortunately, my depleted library no longer contains the books that might have shed more light on Maw's wounding and demise.

Regards
Brett
