So it was an accidental death rather than killed in action?

I often have cause to regret that records in South Africa are less complete and less easily accessed that those in the UK (and elsewhere). I had a very frustrating time trying to find out more about the circumstances that led to the death of a Boer War veteran in South West Africa after the GSWA Campaign ended in 1915. The man concerned was Lieutenant Hugh Frank Ievers, South African Mounted Rifles, (formerly Trooper , Natal Police, and Lieutenant, Royal Warwickshire Regiment).

My record of him ends as follows:
"He .... was killed in a railway accident on 30/10/1915 at Eliso Siding, near Omaruru, aged 33 years. He is buried in the Usakos Cemetery."
Another son of the Empire who ended up buried in a lonely place far from home.

Brett
