Pte Pugh was injured in a railway crash July 1900 then died of enteric Jan 1902 (ref www.boerwarregister.com )

According to the Yorkshire Evening Press (22-05-1905) 50,000 people turned out for the unveiling.

Next year's sunny day oop north is forecast to be April 24th.

Thanks for the photo Berenice. It's of particular interest to me because I have the QSA clasp Cape Colony to Pte. E. Smith AOC who died of disease at Kimberley 6/4/1900. His name, as I'm sure will be the others, is also on the memorial to Yorkshiremen at Duncombe Place in York.
