Meurig,

Had this book for a couple of weeks now and spent some time reading through before I give a part review.
Firstly it is a huge book, thankfully paperback not hardback
I have a habit when I start a new reference book to thumb through front to back just to judge the quality of the writing and illustrations.
At first I must admit I was a little disappointed, the illustratrations in my view just look like poor photocopies and are quite pixelated.
The chapters seemed a little hard to follow, perhaps I was expecting a different book.
Then I started to read it, I must say I had misjudged it.
Although I am only into approx. 100 pages I am finding it very well written and jammed with information encompassing the war.
The illustrations have now become secondary because the writing is so well put together.
I am finding this a great reference book and a good insight into the Victorian era.
I will try and update as I move further into the book.

Cheers
Paul :)

Good Morning Everyone......

I rec'd my copy today and boy it is a huge book......

Did a quick look through and of course went to the section on Canada and was a little disappointed as it did not mention the memorial here in Calgary which was the first one in Canada......

Will have to read more.....

I really don't want to start to nitpick without having had a copy in my hands; however, I looked at a preview on Google books and she lists six (or seven, or maybe eight, it's not clear exactly how many), "a handful", Crimean War memorials in the UK. Off the top of my head I could think of another two, both of which appear in the Imperial War Museum's database, and on checking my own records I found another five.

Thanks Mike and Paul for your comments.

With regard to "missing" memorials (Crimean and ABW) I am sure this book doesn't pretend to be a comprehensive listing. However, whether the omissions are relevant depend on the context, and not having seen the book I cannot comment further.

Keep us updated please.
