Thank you for rounding off this story.

Interestingly, the current City Coins auction is offering the QSA's of participants in two other battles in the Rustenberg district. They are the medals of Pte E Evans, West Yorkshire Regiment, who was wounded at Buffelspoort on 3 December 1900, and Civil Surgeon F J Engelbach, who was killed at Nooitgedacht on 13 December 1900. Accounts of both these battles are given in Wulfsohn's book.

Perhaps you have a photo of Engelbach's gravestone?

Regards
Brett

On my list of officiers I have two Engelbach's. The first one is Captain Francis Joyce Engelbach, killed in action at Bothaville and the second one is Civil Surgeon Frederick George Engelbach also killed in action at Nooitgedacht.

Many thanks, Elmarie. I knew that I could rely on you! Not only did you oblige, but you went one better! I am very impressed!

PS Perhaps the successful bidder for Frederick George Engelbach's medal will post it, and the story of the man behind the medal on this forum.

Dear Brett, Berenice and Elmarie,

While not having an image of Lieut. Richard Wilson's memorial in York Minster, I do have four others: Eton College in Lupton's Chantry (he also named on the memorial in School Hall); New College, Oxford; Men of Yorkshire, York; and, a memorial at Manfield Church, Darlington.

The latter is particularly poignant as it also a memorial to his father, Col. John Gerald Wilson, commanding 3rd Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment, who died of wounds on 8th March 1902, received in action between Tweebosch and Palmietkuil the previous day. Indeed, the family suffered grievously as Richard's uncle and John's brother, Lieut.-Col. and Hon. Col. Richard B. Wilson, C.M.G., commanding the 3rd Batt. Durham Light Infantry, died of enteric at Kroonstad on 21st March 1901.
