Neville on your piece about the Sutton Coldfield Tribute Medal you wrote:

"6948 Lance-Corporal S.F. TAYLOR (died, Bloemfontein, 22/05/1900 – did his family receive a medal?)"

His full name was Samuel Freer Taylor (can't see where the Freer came from). His father was a successful businessman in Sutton Coldfield and a Justice of the Peace. At the time of Samuel's death a Birmingham Newspaper reported that the Sutton Coldfield Council had expressed their condolences to his father. So I think it is highly likely his father was given the medal - his mother had died well before Samuel went to South Africa, possibly something to do with having produced 11 children of which Samuel was the 10th and the first to die.
