I am researching a soldier who lived at Jackson Square, Crumpshall Manchester district, who died in the Boer War
Pte John Timperley, or Tumperley, 5752, 2nd Shropshire L.I., died South Africa, 29, November 1901
can you tell me if he is commemorated on any local War memorial in the district, where could I find a possible newspaper obituary reporting his death in the Crumpshall area
and any other help you can give to finding out more about this soldier
many thanks PHILIP

It's Crumpsall.

I'd contact Manchester Central Library. Might be a Prestwich-based newspaper you need.

Edit - The Manchester & Lancashire Family History Society doesn't have an ABW memorial recorded for Crumpsall. Scroll down to 'Manchester, Crumpsall.' www.mlfhs.org.uk/data/war_memorials_list.php

Timperley is shown as died of disease at Middleburg upon the 29th of November 1901 and was subsequently buried there, his grave extant and marked with it's original metal cross.
