….This impressive memorial fountain was removed from Victoria Square, Felling, some time between 1950 and 1957, according to the Imperial War Museum war memorials' site (where there are more photos to be seen). The town of Felling is now a suburb of Gateshead.

….The memorial, or the pieces of it, may "be in a council yard." After 60+ years? Has no-one looked for it?
….The photo I have, below, is of the unveiling ceremony on 4th June 1905. The front of the memorial is by the lamp post to the right (looks like there were four lamp posts, one at each corner), where there's a gap in the crowd. To the right of that lamp post is a man in uniform astride a cycle. There are unarmed uniformed men facing the memorial, and to their right are several ranks of armed soldiers.
….Note the spectators on the roof of the small building attached to the Bluebell Inn, and behind that is another spectator on a roof.

Berenice,

That is quite a picture. I see there is a group of soldiers with their rifles shouldered to the left of the monument too.

What a shame that is has not survived.

Berenice,

It looks as though the monument was moved when the square was opened up. The monument was located opposite the building on Hilly Hill with the semi circular lower floor windows which is now the corner of Asda's car park.

The buildings on the right hand side of Holly Hill have been demolished.

….I'd guess that the building on the left - a ormer pub or inn? - was where the unveiling photo was taken from, one of the upper floors.
….Assuming that the intention was to eventually re-erect the memorial somewhere else, it seems strange that the council didn't photograph it before removal; if they did, photographs don't seem to have surfaced. Surely the dedicatory inscription, at least, would have been photographed. You can see on the cropped photo below that there was an inscription on at last two sides below the cornice.

A-ha! So that new Blue Bell replaced the one that's in the original photo, and therefore the figure in black is on the side with the drinking fountain, maybe having a drink of water.
