In the centre of The Mall, Armagh.


IRISH FUSILIERS' MEMORIAL
….At Armagh, on Saturday, a memorial to the men of the Royal Irish Fusiliers, who fell in South Africa was unveiled by Lord Grenfell. In unveiling the monument, Lord Grenfell said that the 28 officers and 402 men of the regiment who fell in South Africa had done good service to their country, which would not be forgotten.

The regimental colours are in St Anne's Cathedral, Belfast.

That is one of the more impressive examples to still be seen in it's more or less original state.

I am pleased to see the preservation in place with a view to the long term future, these were, then as now, very expensive to manufacture and do not deserve to be subject to the unwelcome attentions of mother nature.

There are a few colours hanging free, but older ones are in a protected display. Never seen this anywhere else, but well done to whoever thought of it.
