Thank you Jonathan
These two soldiers graves must have been lost, they are both recorded on my local Boer War memorial and also in the list of soldiers died in South Africa
I am steadily going through the list to see where they are buried or commemorated, I see many of them where later reinterred in other cemeteries at a later date
Others it seems have just been lost, I will plod on and see what other I can find
Thank you again for the photograph you sent
Kind regards
PHILIP

They are both listed in Watt's Book, Boothman has named metal cross and Philips has unknown on metal cross. It is possible that Boothman's cross was not photographed at the time or it has been stolen in between being listed in Watts and the date the graveyard was photographed.

Thank you for reply interesting, I have herd a lot of metal cross have disappeared over the years.
Regards to war graves of British soldiers in South Africa do you know if there are any graves to Shropshire L.I., buried at Thaba Nchu as according to my list of soldiers died the following are believed to be buried there
5636, T. Eldrige, 2nd Shropshire L.I., Died 19 May 1900
5618, H. Fryer, 2nd Shropshire L.I., Died of wound 1 May 1900
5673, W. Hallewell, 2nd Shropshire L.I., Died 14 May 1900
2497, A. Morris, 2nd Shropshire L.I., Died 19 May 1900
Do you know if any reference to them in Watts book has to say on them
Any help much appreciated
PHILIP

Eldridge, Fryer and Morris all listed as being casualties at Jacobsrust, and interred at Thaba Nchu? with a further remark 'Name given as unknown on a metal cross at site' The ? indicates grave unknown. Hallewell is listed as having a named metal cross on site, but no picture found on either site

A Morris was my Great Great grandfather. Previously made a thread about him on this site.
