No. 8058, died 21st February 1900, aged 25.

Does the inscription towards the base of the cross read something like P. O. W. WEPENER, and below that .... K. R. R. ?

This is strange as the dates do not match. Presume this is another Pte. H Pearson.
His number is 8058 if anyone has access to the records.
Unfortunately these photos, taken by Grandfather James B Coleman CMG, doctor with The Irish Hospital, are very small and poor quality so the small writing is indecipherable
Why he took this particular photo of a lone grave is anyone's guess, but it is moving and " a corner of a foreign land" springs to mind..
It would have been nice to pass it on to a descendant.

Palmer shows "8058 Pte. Pearson, H. of 1KRRC" was Missing in Action at Dundee, 20/10/99 and later Released. Our host- djb - in his book "Talana - Account and Medal Roll" shows this man as "Prisoner, Talana, 20.10.99 and died of enteric, Waterval camp, 21.2.00". His QSA bore the single clasp "Talana".

Thank you
Dr. Coleman was a specialist in enteric disease so could have been a patient of his.
