A very good find.

Pte 5602 J Rothwell 2bn Royal Lancaster Rgt - shown in the official casualty rolls for the Natal Field Force as "Died at Sea 02-05-1900".

A "new Spion Kop casualty"!

He doesn't come up on Find A Grave but their records for Durban cemeteries seem to be very patchy. I'll try to pop in Southport Library to look up the newspaper archives for a report of his death.

Steve Watt lists him as interred in Wyatt Road Military Cemetery Durban.
His name is also on the memorial wall at All Saints Church Ladysmith
The metal markers are no longer there. Perhaps one of the members in Durban can get you a better photo
See this link for name list, can't load as it is not a jpeg
