Hi Bernice,

Thank you for posting this memorial.
It looks like it is well maintained, a credit to the town.
I am intrigued by the black door with the padlock, do you know what it was for?

I assumed that it was for access to either or both the electricity maintenance (for the light which, of course, would originally have been gas) and the waterworks for the drinking fountain. Sadly, neither the light or water work now.

Shame about the bayonet. Looks to me as though someone might have tried to pull the rifle or bayonet away.
