The commenting system has been upgraded on the site today. This is part of a series of changes leading to a new look and feel for the site in a few weeks' time.

The new commenting system has more features than the old method. For example, you can vote on comments and also quote comments in new comments. Comments are now threaded.

All the existing comments have been retained.

I did ponder the continued need for a commenting facility but decided to upgrade it as it provides a useful opportunity to add information to or correct the data on the site. One problem is that some users add requests for information to a comment rather than the preferred route of creating a message in the forum.

The rule that anyone can view a comment but only registered members can add a comment has been continued.

New comments are listed on the right had side as are the most commented pages.

Here are the codes for smilies that you can use in comments:

Please let me know what you think of the new system.

David

David, was on the site this morning (GMT + eight, had to print eight as it comes up as a smilie using the numeral) without trouble. This afternoon I've had difficulty getting on and have had the "server error" and "Invalid Token" messages when trying to sign in. Just letting you know. I'm not sure if this was just my end or was a general thing but seems to be OK now.

Cheers,

Mark

Mark,

This is very odd. The system has not been changed in the last few days. Do you think the situation worsened wjen I started caching the pages? I could try turning it off and see if performance for you improves?

Kind regards
David

David, with no reports of anyone else having trouble I'm not convinced this is your problem. It may well be this end. I would hold off and see if it returns and if any others are having it before turning off the caching of pages. I've had no trouble at all today and have been onto the forum several times.

Cheers,

Mark
