Neville, Rob thanks for the comments and additional information.

Below photograph shows a Boer sharpshooter, occasion and location unknown. Perhaps not entirely “candid” as the man clearly is aware of being photographed. This photograph was widely distributed and even turned into a postcard.

The photograph hereunder was obviously taken by a British photographer as it shows Boers being debriefed by a British officer. The man to the right of the interrogator is perhaps an interpreter. The scene could depict Boer prisoners however, from the relaxed attitude of the British troopers behind, the visible absence of weapons and the confident comportment of the man being interviewed, it probably is a photograph taken shortly after the armistice.

Here's a candid view of burghers taken through the stereoscopic camera by photographer BW Kilburn, an American, and published by the James M Davis company of New York. The title is "A prayer meeting just before the battle of Spion Kop""
I think the minister conducting the service is Rev. John "Danie"Kestell.
I would be very keen to see any other pictures taken by the photographer.

The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.

Rob,

Another Kilburn view. The scene is of the Boer camp at Dalmanutha. Again not posed.
