Despite being discharged at his own request from the Imperial Yeomanry at Stellenbosch after less than two months days’ service, Hole was awarded the QSA with bar Cape Colony.

He was commissioned temporary Lieutenant, A.S.C., on 3 March 1915, appointed to the 14th Divisional Train at Crondall, promoted temporary Captain, with effect from 20 March 1915 and given command of No. 103 (afterwards No. 4) Company. Together with 103 Company, he crossed to France on 21 May 1915. He was invalided back to the United Kingdom, and arrived back at Dover on 20 December 1915. He was still serving with the ASC when he was demobilised in July 1919 (1914-15 Star, BWM and VM).

Just for completeness' sake, he was also awarded the Special Constabulary Long Service Medal (GVR coinage bust).

Interesting chap.

Thanks David and Brett.

Truth to tell I've been a member for ages, but - as I don't specialise in the Boer War - I haven't before felt the need to post anything to the forum. Anyroad, your comments are very much appreciated!
