Interesting. This guy is on three rolls and the one for the Imperial Bearer Corps clearly states that he should have transvaal and SA 1901. On the ASC, his service in the Natal Volunteer Ambulance Corps is mentioned and the TVL clasp is struck through, like most of them. So, I guess with this guy is entitled to two more clasps than the medal has on it. The latest roll is signed in 1904, so I assume that the last two clasps tried to follow the medal but probably never caught up with it!!

It also begs the question of purchase and should this be of interest, should it be purchased because the two clasps never caught up and should they be purchased separately and the medal made complete or look for one that already is? Constant dilemma:)

Thanks.

Doug.

Hello Doug

What is the guy's name?

Which roll was the medal issued from? I would expect Imp Bearer Corps and NVAC to have clasps issued.

Personally I don't add clasps to medals on account of the expense - would rather put that towards another medal. And, I try not to buy medals missing clasps, except for the date clasps which are commonly missing it doesn't impact the price.

He is Bearer W. Harrison, Natal Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Yes, spot on with the rolls, nothing for the ASC, which are struck through. I agree with the clasps issue, it puts the cost up fat too high usually!

Thanks for that. There is a William signing up at 17 years old at Aldershot, a bit too young for him.

Do you have copies of all of the rolls??!! As theses are not yet digitised!

Hello Doug

I have two copies of the rolls: microfilm and PDF format (free from the TNA - discussed on a thread somewhere here).

I am building a proper digitised medal roll at www.boerwarregister.com .
