I am the great great grand daughter of William Henry Wakelin who was one of two casualties at Labuschagne Nek in 1900. He was with the Border Horse Regiment.

I am researching the family but, can find no information on where he may have been buried. I have found that a medal of his was auctioned at Spink in London - way out of my budget!

Any assistance would be very much appreciated

Hi Elaine

I believe that Wakelin is buried at the Dortrecht Cemetery, but his name on the memorial is W Waketon B.H., for Border Horse. Hunter, who was also killed there, is also named on the same memorial.

I will post a photo tomorrow of the memorial.

Do you have a photo of Wakelin by any chance ?

Regards

Adrian (No 2)

His original Border Horse attestation paper might have survived at Kew, so it would certainly be worth a look at WO126/5 to see, not much I know, but, he will have signed it.
