The 'bumper stickers', flags and other 'Colony of Natal' paraphernalia that were once so common are long-since out of production and are now only rarely seen. The WWII generation and some of the immediately-following one are the last to care about the ties with the UK and the Commonwealth, and both are fast becoming extinct.

I had to change my jingoistic ways after I married a young lady from "the other side of the Drakensberg". That followed another culture shock that involved becoming proficient in Afrikaans during 18 months spent on the diamond fields of Namaqualand. My father must have wondered where he went wrong, but he was too polite to voice his disappointment.

Pardon the impudence - but your slip is showing & u now have exposed yourself.

Not a "hensopper", simply an anacronistic "Colonial" festooned splendidly in "Rags Of Glory", singing "Rule Britannia" at the end of "Last Night Of The Proms" & shouting "Thank God We Kept The Flag Flying", referring wistfully to Britain as "Home" & the "Old Country", & an addicted subscriber to "My England".

Indeed, a dying breed, rightly(?) becoming extinct. But despite the cynicisms of the likes of Jeremy Paxman ("The English:A Portrait Of A People"), I love it too! - after all where would OSAKSA's Island of Natal other side of the Drakensberg be without it!!
